WordPress is a CMS (content management system). This system allows you to host and design any kind of site. WordPress contains a list of free plugins and themes, so you can build and design your site with just a little budget.
How to Build a WordPress Site
We have wordpress.com and wordpress.org. The first thing to know is the difference between wordpress.com and wordpress.org.
If you are using a third-party hosting company, then you have to use WordPress.org, which includes buying a domain and hosting from a third party and installing WordPress. There are two different ways of installing WordPress: automatic and manual installation. But if you are hosting your site on WordPress, then you use wordpress.com.
Steps in Building a WordPress Site
- Domain Registration
- Hosting
- Integration of name servers
- WordPress Installation
- Choose a theme.
- Install plugins and enjoy.
Domain Registration
To register a domain, I will always recommend Namecheap. Go to Namecheap, search for your preferred domain, and register it.
Hosting
To purchase hosting, I will always recommend Namecheap. Namecheap offers a list of affordable hosting packages and has been referred to as the best, most reliable, secure, and server-speed hosting. To purchase a host on Namecheap, navigate to the shared hosting page and select your preferred package. After that, add it to your cart, input your payment details, and confirm your payment.
After that, Namecheap will send your hosting details, which include your Cpanel login and password.
After purchasing your hosting, the next step is to integrate nameservers into your domain DNS area. If you are using Namecheap as your domain and hosting provider, then there’s no need to change name servers, but if both domain and host are on different platforms, then you have to change the name servers. To change nameservers, log in to your domain DNS area and change your servers.
Note: Your WordPress site will not work if you do not change your name servers to the name servers provided by your hosting company, which will then integrate in a few hours.
WordPress installation
After integrating your nameservers, the next step is to install WordPress. I will advise you to install WordPress automatically. Log in to your Cpanel to install WordPress automatically, check for WordPress, and click install. Add your details (login details).
After installation, login to your WordPress site and begin to get familiar with it.
Choose a theme
After installation, the next step you might consider is to choose a theme. WordPress offers you a list of free and beautiful themes, which you can choose from or upload and install your own custom theme.
To choose a theme, click on Appearance and select Theme; click on Add a new theme and select from the list of themes made available; or click on Upload and install your custom theme.
After choosing your theme, you might also consider installing plugins. Some basic recommended plugins are Yoast Seo (for SEO integration),
